Throughout your examination, in addition to checking for dental decay, infections and gum disease, Dr Khan will also check your mouth for any signs of other serious conditions such as oral cancer. We will discuss your medical history and determine if this affects your dental treatment. Often we will take X-rays which allow us to further check your teeth and monitor any issues such as wisdom teeth. If we identify an oral health problems, we take time to explain our findings and our recommended treatments. Then we’ll proceed with a thorough scale and polish.

Root canal, or endodontic, therapy is an important treatment that is carried out on an infected tooth. A throbbing toothache can only be solved with a root canal therapy. Throughout the treatment your tooth will be dressed with medicament to control the infection and eliminate the bacteria in the root canal system. Once this is achieved, the canals are filled and the tooth is then planned for its final restoration.

Periodontal disease, also known as gum disease, is a slowly progressing degradation of the tissues that support teeth. With inadequate oral hygiene measures, inflammation in the gums exhibits itself as gingivitis. If this is not rectified with an improvement in brushing and flossing, then gingivitis can progress into periodontal disease. Smokers and patient’s with certain medical conditions such as diabetes are predisposed to having this periodontal disease. The bone and gums deteriorate around the teeth, which eventually become loose and require extraction.

Although periodontal disease cannot be reversed, it’s progression can be stopped with regular maintenance visits with Dr Khan as well as optimal oral hygiene measures at home. Periodontal disease is a slow process that can take 20 years to manifest as loose teeth. Because of this it is important that it is identified early so it can be controlled.

At the Dental Station, we understand and acknowledge the fear associated with having a tooth removed. Aside from the loss of the tooth, there is a strong emotional component to this loss and we respect that greatly. We strive to make the procedure painless and we’ll walk you through it step by step. This helps you to stay calm and in control. Since 2013, Dr Khan has worked as a clinical educator at the University of Sydney in the student extraction clinic. Rest assured, you’re in safe hands!

Dentures are a cost-effective way to replace multiple missing teeth and restore your function, your smile and your confidence. Dr Khan will work to take an accurate impression of your mouth. He will then take a registration of your teeth biting together and consider the positioning of the denture teeth to maximise function and aesthetics. This information is transferred to the dental laboratory where the denture is processed to a high standard to ensure long term success. Dentures need to be assessed at each checkup to ensure they are fitting well.
